A Sharing of Hearts

During the 52 days and 47 concerts of the 2015 KSOC Tour, many friendships developed between the Ukrainians and Americans. It is always a mystery how such a short stay can foster so much good will. However, with the leadership of Wes and Kim Janzen, and the warm hearts of their Ukrainian musicians, extraordinary music, the message of Christ, and the activities of Music Mission Kiev were shared to appreciative audiences.

Here are some responses from several of the communities they visited:

From Milton, PA: "Thanks so much! We LOVED having you!"

From Vero Beach, FL: "We were all truly touched not only by the high caliber music, but by their one-on-one Christian faith testimony! Our community is still talking about it and rest assured that we'll keep praying for your amazing ministry!"

From Beaufort, NC: "Thanks again for coming and serving with us. I certainly am looking forward to having you again in the future."

From Fort Meyers, FL: "We are blessed for having experienced your music and wonderful ministry. Everyone is still enjoying the glow from that beautiful evening of music and ministry. The Sunday school class I am in has elected to sponsor one year's support for one of the widows who are in so much need. May God continue to bless your mission."

And also from Fort Meyers, FL: "We all absolutely LOVED having MMK with us in concert. It was a spectacular beginning to our new Concert Series, and we have heard nothing but joy from those who hosted your musicians."

From Rock Hill, SC: "It is us who should be thanking you. Not only for the incredible program full of world class musicians and vocalists, but for the passion you have for your ministry and sharing all of the incredible stories with us. Indeed our prayers go out to you, your ministry, and all of those who are in need and who benefit."

From the Senior Pastor in Midlothian, VA: "What a treat we had at Sycamore Presbyterian Church with the Kiev Symphony Orchestra and Chorus! Their talent takes them where many others could not go with the gospel of Christ presented through the classical Christian masterpieces. Their compassion takes them where many others would not go, as they care for the widows, orphans, and victims of war. The combination of their talent and compassion together make this ministry unique and powerful."

From Atlanta, GA: "It was a great blessing and pleasure to have hosted your group. So glad you returned home safely."

Warming a Widow's Heart at Christmas

Our widows and pensioners are enjoying the annual Christmas banquets this year, provided by the gifts of sponsors and friends. Many of our elderly live alone, and have few resources to celebrate this special time of year. That is why it means so much to them to attend our Christmas banquets where they receive a special meal, fellowship with their friends, a time of singing carols and reading the Christmas story, and the distribution of Christmas gifts. This year they are receiving a cooking pan, a selection of toiletries, and an oven mitt. In addition many of our homebound are receiving homemade blankets and shawls. Thank you for the gifts that have made these purchases possible.

The Widows Staff Team

Our beloved Natasha Shevchenko who has administered the Widows Program for many years has moved to the United States to be near her daughter in Colorado. We are happy for her and her husband in this new opportunity to live in a place she has always loved, America!

Now we are joining together as a team to manage this ever-growing ministry to widows and pensioners. Irina Loktionova has been with the mission since its beginning, first as a singer, then a translator, and now an administrator. She has taken on the task as the chief administrator of the widows program.
Kostya Vilkukin is managing the weekly distribution of food packets with his helpers Artem and Roman. Valentina Smirnova, who teaches hand chimes and Bible study to children at our IDP center, assists Irina and Kostya on Saturday mornings.
Valentina Yenichek, who has served with widows ministry in former years, is now assisting with the Stephens ministry. Dr. Vadim Shevchenko , provides eye care for our widows.
Kim and Diane are teaching Bible studies, of course.
Together this is a great team!

Men's Ministry

Our men's Bible study is growing in number and in faith. Every Wednesday these men meet for lunch and a Bible lesson led by Roger McMurrin. The lessons have centered on Heroes of the Old Testament. The men share their prayer concerns and have formed new friendships. We are grateful for this ministry.

A New Generation

The children whom we have been serving in Christian Music Club are growing up. Most are teenagers now. But the Lord has brought us a new generation of children who are learning to play the hand chimes.
And they perform a hymn every Sunday to begin the worship service. Most of these children are the grandchildren of our widows, who brought them to our music camp last summer.
