NEW MEMBERS CLASS
Today we finished interviews for the 17 people that will be joining St. Paul's Church this Sunday. The class is all women this time. In our interviews this week, 10 ladies accepted Jesus as Savior, and six were already Christians. They are wonderful people and it was a delight to be with them.
One woman who has just become a pensioner at age 57, lives in a two-room apartment with her son, her daughter and her five children, and the daughter's second husband who is unkind to the children. How do they do it? She told me, "I love God for giving me hope, peace, and wisdom."
This fall we have had some amazing concerts in Kiev. In September, MMK presented the Haydn Creation conducted by Sergey Golubnichy at the Central Baptist Church. There are so many new, young faces in the chorus, and they sing so well. We are using 50 singers now, instead of 100 and the sound is full and glorious. Sergey did a great job, and the Helping Hands team from America and Canada enjoyed it fully.
Then, in October, Roger conducted a concert of French music at the Dom Organi Musiki (House of Organ Music.) Beginning with "Ubi Caritas", an anthem by Durufle, the cathedral setting was hushed with reverence and beauty. This was followed by the Durufle Requiem, Poulenc Organ Concerto, and the Poulenc Gloria. So many colors in this music that is not often performed in Ukraine! In fact, the Kiev Symphony Orchestra and Chorus is the only group to present these magnificent works.
HELPING HANDS HELP WIDOWS
The widows and pensioners were so pleased with the Helping Hand Group that came in September and October. Friendship between countries makes everyone feel good, and our world feels smaller now, especially wrapped in Christian love. Thanks to all who participated, and brought presents, hugs, and household help to those who are alone and needing a friend. Our widows are glowing with the memories of the events.
CHRISTMAS IS COMING
We have ordered 350 new bed pillows for our widows, along with a pretty red mug, box of tea, and toiletries for a special feeling of Christmas love. Also Americans are sending standard size pillow cases, for sweet dreams of the New Year. A friend of mine always closes her letters with "May God sit on your pillow," and I can imagine the Lord sitting by our dear widows and pensioners watching over them as they sleep. Our Christmas banquets for widows begin December 26 and end January 10th.
Also the MMK office in Orlando is having a Christmas Sale on all recordings of the KSOC and books by Diane McMurrin from November 15-January 15. Prices are: Single CDs: $8; Double CDs: $12; DVDs $5; Books $10. (shipping: $3). Call the office at 1-800-467-5051 and pay with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover Card.
