Towel Distribution
This particular Thursday was special for our pensioners. We decided to distribute the kitchen towels we received from the U.S. Just three days before this meeting, we celebrated Ukraine’s 30 years of independence. We said, “the towels are a gift from our American friends on our Independence Day.”
In order to keep the process easy, after Lena taught the lesson, she decided to tell the group that there would be a special present for each of them on the way out. Well, you know women… Never before have they wanted to make the line go faster. First, they went to Irina’s table to check in, then received food vouchers from Valentina, and finally, they walked up to the box to receive their presents. The suspense of waiting in line was really getting to them.
When one widow came up to the box, Lena told her she could take one. “One what?”, she asked puzzled. The cute hand towels confused them. You would not believe the things we heard: Is it a handkerchief? Is it a little hat? Is it for babies? Lena told them it was a towel to wipe cups. One lady overheard part of that answer and when it was her turn to take a towel, she looked at Lena and asked, “And where are the cups?”
All jokes aside, Lena told us how happy everyone was when they finally receive such a cute, made-with-love, bright item for their kitchen. The surprise gift reminded them again how much they are loved and cared for.
