Visit with Anna S.
Anna S. has recently become homebound and Lena visited her. She is 83 years old and has had multiple surgeries—there is not much hope that she will live long. However, she is very joyful despite the severe pain she has in her joints. Her nephew lives outside of Kyiv and he is the only family she has. He visits her a couple times a month and is very good to her. To keep herself in shape, Anna takes two walks per day—one in the morning and one in the evening. Typically she walks for one and a half hours around her apartment complex. She also loves her balcony plants.
It's remarkable that Anna keeps a very joyful spirit, even though she is in her 80s, buried her only child, and is suffering of pain. She shared that on the nights when she can’t sleep, she gets up and reads her Bible. It’s surprising how clean her apartment is. In fact, Lena saw her scrubbing something really hard in the kitchen and asked her what she was doing. Anna replied, “Please, do not think this table is dirty. It is just getting old. But I hate it looks as if it were dirty.”
Lena delivered seven food vouchers and Anna sends her warmest greetings back to everyone who knows her.
