Visit with Galina K.
Irina and Sasha recently visited Galina K. She has been in our program for 11 years, but her mother was in the program first. When her mother first became homebound, Galina came to pick up food packages and the printed lessons. When Galina’s mother died, Galina joined our program because she, too, was a widow. She was very grateful and later became a Stephen Minister, and she delivered food packages to homebound people and talked to them about Bible lessons.
Galina lives with her 44 year old daughter in a two bedroom apartment and they have a lot of difficulties. When Irina and Sasha came, they were stuck by the poverty, silence, and darkness in the apartment. Galina was very glad they came and told us that her daughter is mentally sick. Her daughter is afraid of everything. She is afraid to leave the house and fears getting hit by a car. She also cannot sleep well and has headaches.
Galina showed her joints and explained that because of poor health she cannot go to the church. Three years ago she went by subway and when the escalator stopped, she fell down. The fall was really bad and she wondered why she was alive after it. Her bones did not fuse together right and they continue to hurt her even now. She has different health problems too.
Irina and Sasha were amazed at Galina’s resilience. She spoke with gladness about the Mission and how she came to know Christ there. God is her strength, trust, best friend now. She prays for everybody every day. She believes God is with her—even in the difficulties. Unfortunately, she isn’t able to help her daughter anymore. When she could afford the hospital treatment, her daughter felt better. Now she can only pray, and God helps her.
Galina was very grateful for our care. Sasha buys her food using the card and she calls him “My Joy”.
She was thankful for helping her mother too. Irina, Sasha, Galina prayed together and read the Bible. With tears on her eyes, she said, it looked like she was in the church. She misses people and fellowship.
She also sends big thanks to everybody.
